Françaises Libres: Franco-American relations have never been as congenial as they will when the guitar/bass duo of Ron Anderson (nyc) and David Chiesa (france) and the guitar/bass duo of Alban Bailly (france) and Evan Lipson (philly) perform an evening of duos and quartets.

The evening will begun with a beguiling performance featuring endlessly innovative talents of Eun Jung Gonzalez (dance), John Heron (percussion), and Sean Mattio (percussion). The trio will introduce themselves to each other shortly before the performance.

RON ANDERSON / DAVID CHIESA DUO


RON ANDERSON - Ron Anderson is a multi-instrumentalist intuitive music maker, performs on not only traditional instruments like the electric guitar, but also will use anything that can make a sound, including the recording studio. He has 45 recordings released with the newest CD being Motel by his trio avant-rock trio PAK. He has performed in 15 different countries with multiple tours of North America, Europe and Japan.

Ron was a co-founder of the notorious rock group RAT AT RAT R in Philadelphia 1980- 81. It was in Philadelphia that he purchased 2 reel to reel tape recorders and started experimenting with tape editing, found sounds, noise, improvisation and combining these with composition. http://www.ronanderson-molecules.com

DAVID CHIESA - "David Chiesa was born on March 8, 1970 in Maubeuge, France. Self-taught, his first musical experiences were as an electric bass player with various rock bands. Since 1994 he has dedicated himself entirely to improvisation. He works across many forms of media and within many different performance contexts. David is a member of the artists network LA FLIBUSTE, based in Toulouse, engaged in reflection on improvised practices, as well as production and broadcast. ALBAN BAILLY / EVAN LIPSON DUO


Two of the most active improvisers in Philadelphia, Alban Bailly (guitar) and Evan Lipson (double bass), make their bowerbird duo debut. The dexterity and authority that these players extract sounds from their instruments with will likely manifest itself in a masterpiece of improvised music.

ALBAN BAILLY - Alban Bailly's first adventure of music making began with rock in his native France. Music lessons with Eric Le Lann and Cesarius Alvim in Rennes opened him to jazz and free improvisation in the late nineties. While attending Music Academy in Nancy, Alban came upon a world of free improvisation. Since 2002, he has collaborated and performed with Sebastien Coste, Camille Perrin, Louis-Michel Marion, Claire Cooper, Marit Schechte, Dominique Repecaud, Chris Heenan and many others. Performances at Musique Action festival, Theatre du Saulcy, MJC Lillebonne, France, Belgium and Germany. He frequently performs with Jack Wright and plays actively with many musicians (Evan Lipson, Dave Smolen, John Berndt…) and dancers (Nicole Bindler, Eun Jung Gonzales...) with the guitar or the accordion. http://www.albanbailly.com

EVAN LIPSON – Evan Lipson is a bassist/composer currently residing with three other musicians in Jack Wright's Spring Garden Music house, located in West Philadelphia. His principal teachers included both Michael Formanek & Robert Kesselman (Phila. Orch). Other private teachers have included Mark Dresser, Mark Helias, Ralph Alessi, and Brad Shepik, as well as Robert Black (Bang On A Can) at the Festival Eleazar Carvalho in Fortaleza, Brazil. EUN JUNG GONZALEZ with JOHN HERON and SEAN MATTIO

EUN JUNG GONZALEZ - Eun Jung Gonzalez creates emotionally charged and intimate
dances merging visual design, interactive digital media, articulate, physical dancing, with continuously strong concepts and successful imageries. Said to possess "extremely creative” by The Dance Insider, her works have been performed in New York, San Diego, Korea, Milwaukee and will be seen in Mexico City in spring, 2006.

Gonzalez is a native of Korea, where she grew up learning Korean traditional dance. Upon graduating from North Carolina School of the Arts with a BFA in Dance , Gonzalez has had numerous performance opportunities with artists and collaborators, including Mark Dendy, Shin-Ja Hong's Laughing Stone Dance Company (Korea), Katja Wachter (Germany), Eun Me Ahn, the Limón Dance Company , Helena Franzén (Sweden), and Pulso Cie. De Danza y algo más (Mexico). She also has been a member of internationally renowned dance companies including, Malashock Dance and Company, Sean Curran Company, Allyson Green Dance, and Risa Jaroslow Hide Tide Dance, touring extensively throughout the US, Mexico, and Europe. http://www.mutednarrative.com
