Interested in using the Community Synth Studio? This orientation introduces the studio as a resource: the equipment we have, how it works, and how you can put it to use. We’ll walk through the instruments in our collection, from fully modular systems to semi-modular synths, so you know what’s here and how to make the most of it.

ORIENTATION DETAILS

The orientation meets Thursday, November 5, from 6:30 to 7:30pm in the Community Synth Studio at AMLA/Esperanza.

This orientation is for adults 18 and older, and no previous experience is needed. The orientation is free. Registration is not required, but it is highly encouraged.

Attending this orientation qualifies you to book time in the Community Synth Studio, which is free.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

Carolyn Zaldivar Snow (she/her) is a field recordist and journalist whose work explores the textures of tape, water, and place. Her sound installations have been presented in museums and universities, as well as in more ephemeral settings—abandoned chocolate factories, geodesic domes, and overgrown Victorian gardens. Carolyn helps shape conversations around sound, and contributes to Tape Op magazine, Mystery Circles’ editorial pages, and The Tonearm writing about recording, listening, and the spaces in between. Dividing her time between Washington D.C. and Philadelphia, Carolyn co-directs Sound Scene at Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. She recently released on Germany’s I U WE records, and considers eurorack modular systems her primary instrument.
