Interesting, beautiful, and unconventional music in beautiful, and unconventional music spaces.
Bowerbird is a Philadelphia nonprofit organization that presents concerts, exhibitions, and other programming focused on music and related art forms. Founded in 2006, the organization has produced more than 800 public events across the city and surrounding region, working in traditional venues as well as in churches, galleries, storefronts, outdoor sites, and other unconventional locations.
Our mission is to expand public understanding of Experimental music, moving away from simplistic tropes such as “cutting edge” or “contemporary,” and instead striving to engage with experimentalism as a timeless and recurrent artistic practice.
Bowerbird’s work spans a wide range of formats and approaches, including performances, installations, workshops, classes, listening sessions, artist talks, and research-based projects. Programs often extend beyond a single event, involving sustained engagement with artists, local communities, historical materials, and archival collections. Alongside ongoing collaborations with Philadelphia-based and regional artists, the organization also works with national and international artists, estates, archives, and scholars to bring historically significant and underrepresented work into public view.
