SOUND PLACES WORKSHOP: CHOIR FOR HANDHELD RECORDER WITH BYRON WESTBROOK
This event was on Saturday, April 14, 2012. Explore the archive below.
Sound Places workshop, part of Commotion. Noon to 4pm, free.
This workshop experimented with using field recordings as an instrument, in a group exercise exploring how the recording process can operate as a performance. The group visited the Grays Ferry Power Plant to record with hand-held recorders; machinery around the plant emits a loud hum very close to a low B-flat. All recordings were played back together at the end of the session as an ensemble.
Byron Westbrook (b. 1977) is an artist working with the dynamic quality of physical space using multi-channel sound, images and objects, including audio/video performances under the name Corridors.
