Silent No More: Cage: Beyond Silence in Where Philadelphia

In Where Philadelphia’s January 2013 guide, Tara Nurin highlighted the partnership between the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Cage: Beyond Silence, the citywide festival layering performances of Cage’s scores with painting, dance and spoken word, presented alongside the museum’s exhibition Dancing around the Bride: Cage, Cunningham, Johns, Rauschenberg, and Duchamp. The piece pointed to the festival’s closing run, January 11–20: Relâche’s Songs & Harmonies with projected visuals and live commentary, and the Number Pieces day, with a boot camp for visitors to realize their own versions before Cage’s Number Pieces were performed in the galleries with dancers from the Merce Cunningham Dance Company.
