Two Synth Skills classes with Christopher Sean Powell

Christopher Sean Powell, the Philadelphia rhythm scholar, producer and electronic musician who has worked with the Sun Ra Arkestra, Yoko Ono and the Boredoms, teaches two Synth Skills classes this November, part of the Neighborhood Sound Lab at AMLA Studios at Esperanza.

  • Synth Skills: One Oscillator Ensemble. Thursday, November 12, 6:30–8pm. Patching techniques that turn a single oscillator into enough material for a whole piece, using VCAs, envelopes, filters and the stereo field on the Moog Mother-32 and the Doepfer system.
  • Synth Skills: Rhythmic Explorations and Combos. Thursday, November 19, 6:30–8pm. How to find the pulses in a modular system, extract rhythms from different sources, and combine them into patterns.

Both classes are for people with a basic understanding of synthesizers or musical rhythm who are ready to go deeper.

Classes meet in the Community Synth Studio at AMLA Studios at Esperanza in Hunting Park, are for ages 18 and up, are limited to 10 people, and need an advance ticket reservation. See the full schedule on the Neighborhood Sound Lab page. Questions: SoundLab@bowerbird.org

Major support for Neighborhood Sound Lab has been provided by the William Penn Foundation with additional support from The Presser Foundation.
