When the pandemic closed concert halls, Bowerbird and The Rotunda started Liminal States, a series of late-night livestreamed concerts intended to be listened to as you fall asleep. Aiming to center and calm, the musicians sought to lead listeners to that magic space between awake and asleep. Most streams began at 10 or 11pm, and listeners tuned in from bed.
The series ran in three seasons, from January 2021 to April 2022, with performers ranging from Marilyn Nonken playing Morton Feldman to Laraaji, Mary Lattimore, Variant 6, Loren Connors, King Britt and Sarah Hennies. Admission was free or pay what you wish.
We now present Liminal States in person from time to time, as part of our regular season.
